Prayer Nighttime

When our sons were old enough to say their nighttime prayers it became a ritual at our house.

It started with the basics of “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.  If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.  God bless Mommy & Daddy, Amen.”

It didn’t take long for others to get added.

God bless Nana & Papa, Aunt Betty, Wispy (our cat), Bernard (our oldest son’s favorite stuffed animal), Puppy Dog (our youngest’s favorite stuffed animal) and an ever increasing list of aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors, teachers (especially Mrs. Norris), etc.

While we sensed that the addition of all of these was just a clever ploy to extend the time before “lights out”, we went along.

What could be the harm of blessing all these folks.

It wasn’t until many years later that I understood that blessing all these folks was a form of gratitude – being grateful for the special ones in your life.

Gratitude is a powerful, powerful force!

It is an massive energy force that generates positive attraction in our life, especially if it is a daily practice.

Best of all it is a free resource available to all of us – regardless of our faith, or lack thereof.

As the old TV commercial stated: “Try it – You’ll like it!”
